The Society is a non-profit organization which was formed in 1977 by volunteers in the community to provide affordable housing for seniors.\u00a0 The Society was incorporated in 1978.\u00a0 In 2002 the organization received charitable status. The Society has a volunteer Board of Directors, who are instrumental in the governance of the Society.\u00a0 Directors have a one- or two-year term and may be nominated to sit on the board at the Annual General Meeting. There is one part-time Administrator and one full-time Caretaker\/Maintenance person.<\/span><\/p>\n The Society manages three facilities, Golden Years Lodge, Valemount House and Mountain Ash Manor. Golden Years Lodge, Phase 1 was built in 1977 and has two floors, the upper floor consists of four (4) one-bedroom units, two (2) large one-bedroom units, lounge area and laundry facilities.\u00a0 Ground level has a commercial kitchen, hall, large lounge area and a one (1) bedroom caretakers suite. \u00a0 In 1987 the Society built Phase 2 of the Golden Years Lodge, adding an additional six (6) one-bedroom units on the upper level and a shop plus storage on the ground level.
